The UK’s first national Restoration Day is taking place this Saturday (22 August 2015) – and it’s all about celebrating that ‘second hand isn’t second best’.
Restoration Day is the brainchild of Preloved.co.uk, one of the UK’s biggest classified ads sites (listed in our Directory here), which features property, furniture and fittings, tradesmen and more. The Preloved community are passionate about everything to do with the second-hand market, from finding a bargain in their local area, to hunting out much-loved antique treasures nationwide.
Preloved believes it is important to encourage buyers and sellers to reuse and recycle items to help reduce the amount of waste that goes to landfill every year. Many nearly-new second-hand items can be found on Preloved, while others need a little TLC. However, many people have realised that you can restore items back to value whilst saving yourself money in the process – and this is what Restoration Day is all about.
The Preloved community already celebrates the joy of second hand every year on National Second Hand Day (which took place back in April), and the Preloved team often share inspiring upcycling ideas, but now Preloved wants to promote the value that can be found in restoration. With over 12,000 pieces of antique furniture and collectables advertised for sale, Preloved is keen celebrate the value in restoring, refinishing, refurbishing and “reloving” period items back to their former glory.
During the run up to the day, members and visitors can check out:
- Inspiring restoration articles written by experts in the antiques and property renovation industries
- Annual Preloved membership deals, so members can get a head start in their restoration journey
- Heaps of restoration ideas across the Preloved blog and social media by the Preloved community, including an exclusive Twitter chat.
Preloved’s Restoration Day is sponsored by leading UK delivery comparison website, AnyVan.com. Restorers will be able to take advantage of the 10% discount on any delivery arranged through AnyVan on the day. Preloved will also be running a competition in partnership with AnyVan, with an unmissable getaway prize – members will simply have to share their restoration successes to enter.
